Job Title: Paramedic (Pennsylvania Certified)

Position Summary

John Carroll EMS is seeking highly motivated, compassionate, and clinically skilled Paramedics to provide advanced life support (ALS) care and emergency medical services to the communities we serve. Paramedics function as integral members of the EMS team, delivering high quality patient care in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) EMS regulations, regional medical command protocols, and John Carroll EMS policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide advanced life support care to patients of all ages in prehospital and interfacility settings.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic findings.

• Administer medications, IV/IO access, airway management, cardiac monitoring, and advanced procedures within scope of practice.

• Operate under medical command, obtaining online or offline orders as required by PA DOH and regional protocols.

• Safely operate emergency vehicles in compliance with state law and John Carroll EMS policies.

• Accurately complete electronic patient care reports (ePCR) in a timely and compliant manner.

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, allied healthcare providers, dispatch, and medical command physicians.

• Participate in quality improvement activities, training, continuing education, and skills verification.

• Maintain equipment, medications, and vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.

• Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

• Serve as a professional representative of John Carroll EMS within the community.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Pennsylvania Paramedic certification (PA DOH EMSVO).

• Current National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification.

• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

• Current CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS), ACLS, and PALS (or PEPP) certifications.

• EVOC certification or ability to obtain within required timeframe.

• Successful completion of PA criminal background check (Act 34), child abuse clearance (Act 151), and FBI fingerprinting (Act 114).

• Ability to pass pre employment physical examination and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous ALS field experience in a 911 EMS system.

• Familiarity with Pennsylvania EMS documentation systems and regional protocols.

• Strong clinical judgment, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull patients and equipment up to and exceeding 100 pounds with assistance.

• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined or hazardous environments.

• Capacity to work under stressful conditions, make rapid decisions, and respond to critical incidents.

Work Schedule

• Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and on call assignments.

• Full time, part time, and per diem positions may be available.

John Carroll Area Ambulance Service (JCAAS) provides both Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services to Carrolltown Borough and East/West Carroll and Allegheny Townships. JCAAS is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week by Paramedics and EMTs.

JCAAS transports patients to the facility of their choice or the closest appropriate facility in certain emergency circumstances. JCAAS provides emergent and non-emergent care to the sick and the injured.

JCAAS provides services to other areas in addition to those stated above when assistance is requested. Those areas include communities in Cambria, Blair, Clearfield, and Indiana Counties.
