Job Summary / Description:

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer / Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Docker to support backend application development for Capital One. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building scalable, cloud-native backend services and deploying applications in containerized environments.

This role involves close collaboration with frontend, DevOps, and QA teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing backend solutions while adhering to enterprise engineering standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

Develop, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, and performance tuning.

Build, deploy, and manage containerized applications using Docker across multiple environments.

Develop and support cloud infrastructure and services on AWS, including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.

Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, testing, and deployment processes.

Monitor application performance, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure high availability and reliability.

Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and QA teams to deliver end-to-end application solutions.

Follow best practices for application security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development standards.

Required Skills & Experience:

Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot for backend development.

Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance optimization.

Experience deploying and managing applications using Docker.

Solid experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch).

Experience with CI/CD tools and automated deployment pipelines.

Strong understanding of backend system design, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.

Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Prior Capital One experience is mandatory.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:

Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.

Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

Exposure to cloud-native monitoring and logging tools.

Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-based applications.

Experience supporting high-volume, enterprise-scale applications.
