Boiler Operator / D&E – Job Description
Pay Range: $36.25 – $38.25 per hour
Shift: 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM–7:00 PM / 7:00 PM–7:00 AM on a 2-2-3 schedule, rotating between days and nights each week
The Boiler Operator / D&E Operator is responsible for supporting plant operations by working as part of a team to safely achieve high levels of quality, efficiency, and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operate and maintain the boiler, including blowdowns, hourly checks, routine maintenance, chemical adjustments, and performance monitoring
Operate a gas-powered turbine and optimize efficiency
Perform water testing on the RO system, boiler, condensate, and deaerator (DA) tank while maintaining accurate logs and records
Control and monitor evaporators, centrifuges, conveyors, dryers, and grain handling systems
Assist with various operational tasks throughout the plant as needed
Identify issues, participate in timely problem-solving, and recommend process improvements
Run laboratory samples using equipment such as pH probes, Karl Fischer titrators, acidity meters, microwaves, density meters, and HPLC
Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities, including communication with the QA/QC laboratory, sampling and testing process streams, interpreting results, and taking corrective action when required
Participate in plant maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, assisting maintenance technicians with repairs, and troubleshooting maintenance-related issues
Follow all health, safety, and environmental programs and procedures
Work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
Operate front-end loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, skid loaders, and other related equipment (experience preferred)
Maintain plant cleanliness in accordance with established programs and procedures
Be available for scheduled or call-in overtime as required
Perform all work in accordance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and standard operating procedures
Complete assigned tasks using established checklists and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
Work safely at all times
Position Requirements & Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, high noise levels, chemicals, and varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
Physical and environmental requirements include:
Ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling, and grasping
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
Ability to work in confined spaces and climb multiple flights of stairs and ladders up to 150 feet
Willingness to work in extreme temperatures ranging from approximately -20 ree;F to +100 ree;F
Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances
Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toe boots, and hearing protection
Willingness to work overtime and rotating 12-hour shifts
Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and work independently
Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance
Basic computer skills or the ability to learn
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
Adaptable and open-minded, with a team-focused mindset and the ability to resolve issues respectfully
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Experience in a dry-mill ethanol plant preferred, but not required
Minimum Second-Class B Boiler License required
Valid driver’s license required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be authorized to work in the United States
