Position Specific Summary

Position Overview

The Lab Assistant will support ongoing research and development projects at GW SmartGrid Lab. The student will work closely with faculty, graduate students, and research staff, contributing to data-driven research activities, visualization, and dissemination of results. This position offers hands-on experience in smart grids, power systems, and applied data analytics.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Lab Assistant will support the team in the following areas:

Assist with data collection, cleaning, and analysis for ongoing research projects

Develop data visualizations, figures, and plots for technical reports, presentations, and publications

Support graphics design needs, including schematics, conceptual diagrams, and visual content for papers and proposals

Assist in preparing research manuscripts, including formatting, figure preparation, and reference management

Help maintain organized datasets, code repositories, and documentation

Collaborate with lab members on interdisciplinary research tasks as needed

The student will gain:

Hands-on experience in cutting-edge smart grid research

Exposure to academic publications and conference preparation

Opportunity to work closely with faculty and graduate researchers

Development of technical, analytical, and research communication skills

Potential for acknowledgment or authorship contribution depending on involvement

Standard Position Description

The student will monitor and assist other students and provide basic maintenance. Tasks may include: ensuring the computer room/lab is accessible, checking in/out lab equipment, assisting students with technical problems, and performing basic computer and printer maintenance. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
