The Kubernetes Architect is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, security, and sustainment of containerized and cloud-native platforms supporting mission-critical federal programs. This role ensures the availability, scalability, security, and performance of Kubernetes environments while supporting cloud modernization, platform engineering, and enterprise DevSecOps initiatives.Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain secure, highly available Kubernetes clusters across on-premises and cloud environments.
Support Kubernetes operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
Architect and manage cluster networking, ingress/egress, service exposure, and container storage integrations.
Perform capacity planning for compute, storage, and networking to support containerized workloads.
Implement platform scaling, resiliency, and reliability engineering practices.
Install, configure, and maintain Kubernetes platforms in hybrid and cloud environments (e.g., AWS EKS, Azure AKS, GKE, OpenShift).
Design and implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for Kubernetes workloads and persistent data.
Implement and enforce Kubernetes security controls, RBAC, secrets management, network policies, and auditing.
Integrate CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows for automated deployment and configuration management.
Support application containerization and cloud migration initiatives.
Recommend and implement improvements to platform governance, change management, and configuration management processes.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, platform architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to support platform standards and best practices.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience
Active TS/SCI with FSP
Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and operate Kubernetes environments
Proven background implementing highly available and secure container platforms
Strong proficiency in Linux operating systems and container runtimes (Docker, containerd, CRI-O)
Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes networking, ingress controllers, and load balancing technologies
Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, CloudFormation, ARM)
Demonstrated capability to implement backup, recovery, and continuity of operations for containerized platforms
Proven success optimizing performance, scalability, and reliability of Kubernetes clusters
Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and logging platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, OpenTelemetry)Preferred Qualifications
Background supporting classified federal programs
Knowledge of cloud-native and hybrid Kubernetes architectures
Hands-on experience with enterprise Kubernetes platforms (OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu)
Familiarity with DevSecOps and GitOps practices (ArgoCD, Flux)
Understanding of high-availability and disaster recovery architecture concepts
Exposure to formal change and configuration management processes
Demonstrated ability to containerize and modernize legacy applications
