A leading global mining company is seeking a Mine Engineering Technician (Ground Control) to join its Engineering team at the Mine in Goderich, Ontario — the largest underground salt mine in the world. This is a fully onsite, non-exempt position working underground and supporting critical ground control and rock mechanics activities.

The Mine Engineering Technician will play a key role in monitoring underground conditions, maintaining instrumentation, and supporting engineering and planning activities to ensure safe and reliable mining operations.

The Role

Reporting to the Ground Control Engineer, the selected candidate will work closely with engineering, planning, and operations teams to support ground control programs and mine safety initiatives. This role combines field-based technical work with data collection, drafting, and reporting responsibilities in a dynamic underground environment.

The position requires hands-on involvement in underground inspections, instrumentation installation, and technical data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and monitor rock mechanics instrumentation in underground excavations.

Collect, analyze, and format ground control and geotechnical data on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Inspect underground conditions and support the development of rehabilitation and ground support plans.

Perform geologic mapping, 3D scanning, GPR surveys, and ventilation surveys as required.

Maintain accurate engineering drawings, documentation, and records while supporting broader engineering activities.

Qualifications

Qualified Mine Engineering Technician or Technologist diploma.

3–5 years of experience in mining operations; underground soft rock mining experience is an asset.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; AutoCAD experience is highly desirable.

Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with attention to detail.

Willingness and ability to work underground and at heights using elevated man lifts (up to ~60 ft).
