This is a fully onsite position working underground, with relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.

The Lead Ground Control Engineer will play a critical leadership role in overseeing ground control, rock mechanics, and geological programs while supporting mine planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and long-term operational stability.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Engineering and Capital Manager, the selected candidate will function with a high degree of autonomy and lead a small team of technical professionals responsible for ground control design, monitoring, and rehabilitation activities. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and strategic planning within a complex underground mining environment.

The position works closely with cross-functional technical and operational teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant underground operations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise a team of ground control, rock mechanics, and geological professionals supporting underground mining operations.

Manage ground control inspection, monitoring, and instrumentation programs, including audits and rehabilitation planning.

Oversee underground exploration activities such as diamond drilling, seismic programs, and geologic modeling.

Manage capital and continuous improvement projects, coordinating contractors and internal stakeholders.

Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to support mine planning, reserve estimation, KPI development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent education, with specialization in rock mechanics, geology, or ground control.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground mining engineering, including soft rock mining experience.

Strong proficiency with mining and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Deswik, Leica Geosystems, VnetPC, and Ventsim.

Proven leadership experience managing technical teams; experience with unionized environments is an asset.

Excellent communication, analytical, and technical writing skills with the ability to work autonomously in a complex operation.
