Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide in-home support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. The ideal candidate has prior experience in the DSP field, strong redirection and prompting skills, and the ability to build trusting relationships with individuals and their families. This role requires hands-on personal care, household assistance, and community support while maintaining dignity, safety, and respect at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct care and supervision to individuals in their homes
Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
Bathing and showering
Dressing and grooming
Toileting and hygiene support
Support individuals with mobility needs, including some who are paralyzed or have limited physical movement
Use verbal redirection, prompting, and positive reinforcement to assist individuals with:
Completing household chores
Following daily routines
Staying engaged and on task
Assist with light housekeeping and maintaining a safe, organized living environment
Provide transportation to appointments and community activities as needed
Communicate effectively and respectfully with family members, caregivers, and care coordinators
Build positive, supportive relationships with individuals and their families
Follow Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and agency policies
Document daily activities, progress notes, and incidents accurately and on time
Required Qualifications
Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) or in a related caregiving role
Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and current auto insurance
Ability to provide physical assistance, including transfers and personal care
Strong interpersonal, communication, and redirection skills
Ability to work collaboratively with families and other caregivers
Dependable, patient, and compassionate demeanor
Ability to pass background checks and required screenings
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, or limited mobility
Familiarity with ADLs, behavior support, and person-centered care
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
