Who we are:
The Learning and Performance Center (LPC) is the employee development department for Chesterfield County employees. We assist the county by providing professional development and consulting services that enhance the effectiveness of individuals, teams and the organization. What you will learn:
The Learning and Performance Center Intern will lead a comprehensive customer experience assessment across various Chesterfield County departments. This project will involve scoping, conducting, and evaluating a range of customer service interactions to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
Under guided supervision, the intern will:
Conduct benchmarking against best practices,
Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data,
Perform firsthand observations of service delivery and develop actionable recommendations to enhance the customer experience.
The intern will engage directly with department directors to plan and execute up to ten in-depth service assessments, gaining broad exposure to county operations.
Upon completion, the intern will present their findings and recommendations to the Deputy County Administrator for Finance & Administration and the Director of the Learning and Performance Center.This project will directly inform the County's customer service consulting and training strategy, offering the intern a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful organizational development while building professional skills in research, analysis, and public sector service delivery. Perform other work as required.
The Chesterfield Experience:
As an intern in Chesterfield County, you will have an opportunity to meet with county leaders, collaborate with your peers, attend training seminars, and participate in team building exercises to complement what you will be learning in the professional work environment provided by the Learning and Performance Center.
Internship Requirements and Eligibility
To be considered for the Internship Program, students must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8. Students accepted into the Internship Program must be able to participate in the full 10-week program, exhibit a commitment to public service, and a genuine interest in learning about public administration.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to complete tasks with minimum supervisor, self-motivated, as well as possess interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with others at varying levels of the organization.
Additionally, professional communications skills and proficiency with spreadsheets, word documents, and PowerPoint are required.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Program Dates
The Summer 2026 program will be held from May 26, 2026 to July 30, 2026.

Program Pay Rates
Undergraduate-$17.00/hour; Graduate-$19.00/hour
