Summary: The teacher is responsible for planning and providing high-quality, evidence-based math instruction for students in a secondary school setting. The goal is to foster an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of every student, consistent with the Goals and Mission of Somerset County Public Schools and the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned by the Building Principal or Administration.

Instructional Delivery: Teaches secondary mathematics according to MSDE Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS).

Support & Intervention: Specifically targets Math support for students, utilizing modeling, creative problem-solving, and abstract reasoning to bridge learning gaps.

Assessment: Diagnoses student learning needs regularly to prescribe appropriate intervention strategies and monitor progress.

Planning: Implements daily lessons that include all essential components defined by SCPS, ensuring differentiation for diverse learners (including IEP, 504, and EL students).

Technology Integration: Uses instructional technology (e.g., Schoology, graphing calculators, and interactive software) as an integral part of daily instruction.

Classroom Management: Maintains a safe, consistent, and fair learning environment that encourages student engagement and respect.

Collaboration: Works closely with the Math Department, Special Education faculty, and Instructional Coaches to align support with core curriculum.

Communication: Maintains proactive and objective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress.

Professionalism: Participates in the school improvement process, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay current with secondary math pedagogy. III. Qualifications

A. Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university in Mathematics, Secondary Education, or a related field.

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Required: Current Maryland State Professional Educator Certificate.

Endorsement: Mathematics (7-12) or Middle School Mathematics (4-9).

Note: Candidates eligible for conditional certification may be considered based on SCPS district needs.

C. Language and Mathematical Skills

Language: Ability to interpret professional journals and technical manuals; ability to explain complex mathematical concepts to students with varying levels of understanding.

Mathematical: Advanced proficiency in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Data Analysis. Ability to interpret statistical data to drive instructional decisions.

D. Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace for Education, and Student Information Systems (SIS).

E. Other Qualifications

Must demonstrate a passion for working with adolescents and young adults in a multicultural secondary setting.

Must be willing to participate in district-level math training and "Blueprint for Maryland's Future" professional development.

Experience with small-group intervention and "Tier 2" instruction is highly preferred. IV. Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. Must be able to use hands for technology-based instruction and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Environment: Typical secondary classroom setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Must be able to navigate a secondary school campus efficiently.
