Description
Purpose
Under general supervision, the Cataloger updates the Integrated Library System (ILS) and OCLC databases.
Essential Position Functions
Performs copy and original cataloging
Searches the ILS and OCLC for bibliographic records
Verifies authority of author names and subject headings
Assigns call numbers using the Dewey Decimal System
Determines and documents cataloging procedures for new and emerging formats
Maintains contact with Central Library Consortium partner libraries' cataloging/technical services staff to ensure compliance with ILS
Processes Interlibrary Loan requests for items not in the ILS using SearchOhio, OhioLINK, and OCLC software
Performs duties of Librarian, as needed
Requirements
Education, Training and/or Experience
Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records
Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order
Proficient in the use of the ILS, OCLC cataloging software, MARC records and standard cataloging tools, and Interlibrary Loan software
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPointPhysical Demands
Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily
Ability to move up to thirty (30) pounds, daily
Ability to push book trucks with up to 150 pounds of material on them, daily
Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, climbing and squatting, daily
Travel by automobile is required occasionallyWorking Conditions
Majority of work performed in general office/library environment
Requires availability for extended hours as needed
Requires periodic participation and attendance at events and training
