Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and efficient Mechanical Engineer who will play a key role in supporting mechanical project design execution. This position will require a strong understanding of mechanical engineering practices within an industrial environment as it relates to systems within the Food and Beverage Industry.

Key Responsibilities

•Design various types of mechanical systems and recommend equipment selection for use in various types of food or beverage plants including HVAC (offices/production areas, heat loss/gain, duct design), underground plumbing (storm, sanitary, process sanitary, grease interceptors) and plumbing systems involving domestic hot/cold water, hydronic heating and cooling/glycol systems, high pressure wash system, water treatment systems (softening, reverse osmosis), natural gas facility distribution.

•Process hot water and steam boilers equipment selection, including steam/condensate piping design and component selection.

•Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance or rejection of completed designs.

•Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services.

•Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.

•Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.

•Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.

•Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

•Determine budget requirements for mechanical systems and submit budgetary recommendations as well as monitor and be responsible for budgets throughout the project.

•Create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.

•Work closely with architectural, electrical, civil, and structural disciplines to ensure building projects are completed to client’s satisfaction.

•Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers and work closely with technologists to develop plans to client satisfaction.

•Develop and demonstrate presentations to colleagues and clients.

•Evaluate process equipment for use by client and make recommendations.

•Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

•Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing with the Professional Engineers Ontario.

•Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code for Plumbing and HVAC, Ontario Fire Code, CFIA, ASHRAE STD as applied to HVAC and Refrigeration, NFPA, OSHA, TSSA, CSA Standard for fuel related appliances and equipment.

•Thorough understanding of Ammonia and Halocarbon refrigeration systems.

•Ability to identify key financial performance indicators and their relationship within a project.

•Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications.

•Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.

•Proven track record in managing large project budgets.

•Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Education and Experience

•University degree in Mechanical Engineering.

•Three to five (3-5) years related work experience in the food or pharmaceutical industries.

•Experience in a consulting environment would be considered an asset.

•Effective leadership style that demonstrates potential growth mindset to develop as a senior manager.

•Willingness to learn and train those in need.

•Ability to work in a high performance environment, deal with clients in a professional manner, and willingness to travel primarily within Ontario if required for projects.
