Purpose of Role
To install, commission and maintain LV and MV electrical systems, solar PV arrays and HVAC feeds for construction facilities and early-operation assets, ensuring statutory compliance and uninterrupted power to camp and plant.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret single-line diagrams, cable schedules and construction drawings; size and pull cables, terminate glands and lugs to IEC/SANS standards.
Assemble and test distribution boards, motor-control centres (MCCs), automatic transfer switches (ATS) and generator change-over panels.
Install, string and sag 11 kV overhead lines (where competent); fit pole-mount transformers, drop-out fuses and surge arresters.
Commission rooftop and ground-mount solar PV systems, integrating inverters into hybrid power schemes.
Execute preventive maintenance—IR thermography, insulation resistance, earth-loop impedance, breaker injection testing—recording results for hand-over dossiers.
Apply LOTOTO, isolation, confined-space and working-at-heights procedures; issue and clear electrical permits to work.
Inspect free-issue materials received into Bonded Warehouse; raise NCRs and manage equipment preservation logs.
Mentor apprentices and assistants; transfer practical skills in safe wiring, testing and fault-finding.
