Hourly Rate: $75-$90 W2 (no third party or C2C at this time)

We're seeking a Controls-leaning SCADA Systems Engineer to lead the review, completion, and execution of a controls design package for a mission-critical industrial automation project. This is not a software-only role - you will work from controls narratives, interface with P&IDs, and design or validate logic to ensure a complete, scalable, and standards-compliant controls system.

This is a multi-phase engagement:

Phase 1: Review and complete an existing controls/SCADA design document (currently 30% complete).

Phase 2: Own and lead the implementation of that design (PLC/HMI programming, commissioning, testing, etc.).

What You'll Do:

Review and validate an existing controls design narrative and fill in technical gaps

Interpret and develop I/O lists, P&IDs, and functional control documents

Design control logic sequences for PLCs

Select, configure, or validate HMI/SCADA interfaces

Specify and align system architecture across PLC, SCADA, historian, and cloud/enterprise integrations

Interface with IT/OT teams to ensure secure, scalable system design

Contribute to system commissioning, FAT/SAT, and operational readiness

Must-Have Skills:

PLC programming and architecture: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar

HMI/SCADA configuration: Ignition, AVEVA, Wonderware, FactoryTalk, or GE

Experience working from or creating controls narratives, I/O lists, and functional specs

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols:

Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850 (Goose/SNP), OPC-UA, MQTT

Familiar with ISA-95, ISA-101, and preferably ISA-62443

Experience with redundant OT systems and high-availability architectures

Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, cybersecurity, and commissioning teams

Bonus:

Field experience with FAT/SAT and commissioning

Experience designing for utilities, energy, data centers, or microgrids

Familiarity with cloud/edge integrations (Azure Data Lake, Ignition Edge, etc.)
