Job Description
A global manufacturing organization is seeking an Equipment Engineer to support the performance, safety, and reliability of production equipment. This role provides technical leadership across equipment design, installation, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance support to ensure efficient and dependable operations.
The Equipment Engineer partners closely with operations and maintenance teams to resolve equipment challenges, improve throughput, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend the useful life of assets.
Key Responsibilities
Track and evaluate equipment performance, recommending and implementing design or process enhancements to improve reliability and efficiency.
Partner with production, quality, reliability, and cross-functional teams to address complex equipment failures and recurring maintenance issues.
Prepare technical specifications and documentation to support the sourcing and procurement of equipment, materials, and external services.
Ensure equipment and processes meet applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ISO).
Create, update, and manage technical records, drawings, and maintenance history within CMMS platforms.
Use Lean principles and condition-based monitoring to identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead capital and plant engineering projects, including equipment upgrades and new installations, from initial concept through commissioning.
Apply advanced diagnostic tools (such as ultrasound, thermography, and lubrication analysis) to assess equipment health and guide data-driven decisions.
Provide technical support for equipment-related issues across multiple locations; limited travel may be required.
Establish preventive maintenance standards and spare parts strategies aligned with reliability and risk management best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 5 years of experience in equipment engineering, maintenance engineering, or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of industrial equipment such as dust collection systems, pumps, fans, and material handling systems.
Solid understanding of mechanical and/or electrical design principles, with the ability to produce or interpret CAD drawings.
Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a plant setting.
Experience using root cause analysis tools (e.g., FMEA, RCA); background in reliability engineering is a plus.
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Proven ability to manage projects from planning through execution, including contractor oversight and cross-site coordination.
Experience using CMMS systems and applying maintenance best practices.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
