Rio Elementary BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Services, works with students who require Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies and Social Skills Training (SST), and administers PBS to students directly in a school setting.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1.

Works with students who require PBS/SST school programs.

2.

Provide directed learning experiences.

3.

Administers PBS/SST to students with and without identified disabilities.

4.

Assignments may include working at more than one location and with multiple students.

5.

The employee will assist Instructional Assistants and Teachers who may also be providing PBS/SST instruction to students.

6.

The employee will attend staff meetings, provide program input, demonstrate program procedures, and follow or implement program recommendations.

7.

The employee will attend a variety of meetings and clinics including advanced training sessions.

8.

Perform clerical duties and related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: 1.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Social Skills Training (SST) 2.

Appropriate safety precautions and procedures for classroom and recreational activities.

3.

Use and operation of a word processor, computer and standard office equipment.

Ability to: 1.

Learn the general needs and behavior of students with behavior challenges.

2.

Assist Instructional Assistants and Teachers in the development and reinforcement of PBS/SST.

3.

Demonstrate and instruct less experienced Instructional Assistants through modeling and/or shadowing techniques.

4.

Present educational materials, lessons, programs and projects to students with varying degrees of behavioral impairment.

5.

Observe and administer drills, conduct probes, implement behavioral strategies and program modifications in accordance with a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). 6.

Work effectively with parents, teachers, students, other staff and the general public.

7.

Run Social Skills groups.

8.

Understand and accurately follow oral and written instructions.

9.

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

10.

Drive a car.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1.

Any combination of training, education, high school diploma, and experience equivalent to an AA Degree from an accredited college or university.

2.

Two (2) years of experience in a paid or volunteer position working with children with behavioral challenges.

3.

Demonstrate knowledge of the general needs and behavior of children with behavioral challenges.

4.

Experience in the use of strategies with children with behavioral challenges.

5.

Previous experience in collecting data and writing short narrative reports.

6.

Demonstrate a genuine fondness of children.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Required: Valid California driver's license.

Desirable: 1.

Possession of a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate.

2.

Possession of a valid American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate.

3.

Completion of advanced training in the therapy/application of Positive Behavior Support.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Is subject to classroom, playground and community settings, which may include inside and outside environmental conditions.

Subject to driving between sites.

Physical Ability: 1.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and to make presentations.

2.

Dexterity of hands and fingers for operating office equipment 3.

Carrying, pushing or lifting classroom equipment and supplies.

4.

Bending at the waist.

5.

Lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds 6.

Reaching over head, above the shoulders or horizontally to store equipment.

7.

Seeing to observe students in classroom activities.

8.

Moving around a classroom or playground environment freely and independently enough to observe children naturally and unobtrusively.
