This effort has created Ohio's first World Heritage site.rn rnSummary:rnGrounds Technicians ensure the proper care and maintenance of the buildings and grounds at Newark Earthworks and Flint Ridge in Heath and Newark, Ohio.
This position is responsible for a variety of grounds and building maintenance and custodial tasks including mowing, snow removal, garbage removal, cleaning and basic repair of restrooms, light equipment maintenance, and upkeep of grounds and buildings.
In winter, the Grounds Technician may assist the statewide maintenance team with projects across the site system.rn rnEssential Duties and Responsibilities include: rnrnMaintaining the grounds of the Newark Earthworks to a high standard by ensuring grass is mowed and vegetation managed in accordance with preservation aims, walkways and grounds are safe and clear of trash and debris, shelter houses are clean and in good repair, and trash is removed regularly from receptacles throughout grounds.
rnServing as a friendly face of the site, greeting site visitors and providing basic information to guests when requested.
A willingness to learn about the site is essential.rnRoutine and storm cleanup of sticks, limbs, and trees.
rnComplete training on all major equipment including chipper and Ventrac.
Complete CSAW (Chainsaw Safety Awareness that Works) training.rnCompleting custodial work including cleaning and sanitization of restrooms and the museum.rn Completing routine building maintenance and minor repairs including painting, light carpentry, and basic electrical work (for example, replacing light bulbs and fixtures or repairing doors, hardware, and trim).rnAssisting with snow removal in winter months as needed.rnAssists with upkeep of interior spaces including cleaning, repairing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors.rnrn rnWork environment:rnrnOutside in all weather conditionsrnFrequent exposure to dust, dirt, and wet working areasrnrn rnThe ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: rnrnHigh school diploma or equivalent.rn3 - 5 years experience in site maintenance work or knowledge to do site maintenance work.
rnMust be knowledgeable in landscape maintenance.rnSkill to operate hand tools, power tools, a variety of custodial equipment and machines, mowing equipment, chipper, Ventrac, and chainsaw.
