ABOUT THE ROLE

The Immigration Support Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that ALU’s international students have a smooth, compliant, and well-supported experience with all immigration processes in Mauritius. This role is central to student success, managing visa and permit applications, renewals, and compliance with local immigration regulations.

You will serve as the primary liaison between students, ALU leadership, and government agencies, providing clear guidance, expert advice, and timely support throughout the permit lifecycle. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to track complex cases, anticipate challenges, and implement effective solutions.

This position also contributes to process improvement and quality assurance, helping ALU maintain robust, efficient, and compliant systems for international student administration. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and capable of balancing operational excellence with exceptional student service, all within a fast-paced, high-growth educational environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Immigration Services:

Advisory and Compliance: Offer expert advice on immigration processes, ensuring students are well-supported and compliant with local regulations.

Permit Management: Meticulously manage the permit application and renewal process, liaising with government agencies and ensuring timely submissions.

Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain robust communication channels with external agencies, ensuring a seamless support system for students' immigration-related needs.

Case Management: Keep track of student permit applications, manage communication, and address complex cases proactively.

Consultation and Quality Checks for Processes & Policies

Prioritize consultations specifically for process and policy development, adjusting as required for critical needs.

Provide strategic advice primarily for the formulation and assessment of policies, reducing involvement in routine tasks.

Implement semi-annual quality reviews, concentrating on essential metrics and efficient auditing methodologies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Hold a bachelor’s degree or Higher Certificate Diploma: Public Administration, Management, International Relations, Political science or similar.

If no bachelor’s degree, 5 years post diploma work experience

1 year post university graduation experience

Excellent IT skills, with particular experience in Salesforce CRM

Knowledge and experience of international student administration

Understanding and experience of the student permit application

Experience of managing conflicting priorities and organising own work to deliver targets and effectively meet deadlines within a high-volume environment

Excellent attention to detail and customer service skills

Experience of working as a team with a flexible approach to delivering team/institutional objectives

Ability to understand, summarize and convey complex information that needs careful explanation or interpretation, e.g. legislation or regulations

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain work of high quality

Analytical skills and a systematic approach to work

Willingness to work flexibly

Fluency in English, French (speaking, writing and reading). Understanding and communicating in Mauritius Creole is required.
