Promotional & Open Opportunity
To fill current vacancies, 7 hours per day, 181 days per year Itinerant assignment, (schools within Ventura Unified School District), and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. The established list will remain in effect for six (6) months.

THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the assigned Administrator, Specialist and/or the classroom teacher, assist with the monitoring, coordination and implementation of Intensive Behavior Interventions involving Applied Behavior Analysis leading to Discrete Trial Teaching, Pivotal Response Teaching, Floor Time, Incidental Teaching and other methods while working with individuals with exception needs.
THE CANDIDATE
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District's assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate's degree is highly desirable.
Requires three years of experience working with students with exceptional needs, including experience in an inclusion setting and/or Special Day Class.
LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
A valid California driver's license.
Completion of the VUSD or Ventura County SELPA Intensive Behavior Intervention (IBI) certification training (including successful completion of extended mentoring program), or equivalent training/certification (e.g. 14 hours of Applied Behavior Analysis training or Registered Behavior Technician training).
Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (NCPI) training and yearly refresher courses to keep certification current; employees must fulfill certification requirement prior to completion of the six-month probationary period.
Completion of the Ventura County SELPA Autism Certification Program or AFIRM online modules is recommended and preferred for this classification (but not required).
Some incumbents in this classification may be required to speak, read and write in a designated second language. THE DETAILS
TESTING INFORMATION
The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the
Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) This portion of the examination consists of an application screening used to evaluate the applicant's education, training, and experience relevant to the position. This portion is designed to gain an overall assessment of each applicant's education and experience as it directly relates to the duties and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. It is important to complete the supplemental questionnaire carefully and accurately. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualifications appraisal interviews.
Upon qualifying, applicants will be notified by email regarding the procedures to schedule a qualifications appraisal interview. Notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position.
Applicants must pass the training and experience application screening in order to move to the next step in the examination process.
Step 2: Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) Tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 6th, 2026.
All applicants must achieve a passing score in the interview process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided
All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.
Education Incentives
All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.
AA/AS = 2.50%
BA/BS = 4.00%
MA/MS = 5.00%
Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 6.00%

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)

Conviction Information and Fingerprints: State law requires that all selected candidates be fingerprinted to check for and/or verify conviction records. California Education Code prohibits a governing board of a school district from employing a person until the Department of Justice completes its check of the criminal history file (and the Federal Bureau of Investigation when required). California Education Code provisions prohibit the employment of persons convicted of a violent or serious felony, and also govern the employment of individuals convicted of specified sex and/or controlled substance offenses. VACATION
Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example: a new employee working 8 hours/day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per
year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.) Vacation earned increases with years of service with the district.
SICK LEAVE
The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
