General Description

The purpose of this job is to plan, organize, and instruct group fitness classes.

This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Plans, organizes, and instructs group exercise classes for the general public at assigned facilities operated by Dinwiddie County and other public and private facilities.

Maintains attendance records, rosters, and reports pertaining to assigned program/class.

Maintains and documents inventory of various equipment.

Ensures proper room set-up and clean-up in a timely manner.

Enforces department policies and procedures.

Establishes and enforces program/class rules.

Serves as a resource and contact in area of expertise for outside agencies and private citizens requesting information or assistance on programs/classes.

Provides support for various special events for the department.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Experience: Some experience in teaching fitness; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Certification in instruction.

Physical Demands

Medium Work - Involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying objects weighting up to 25 pounds.
