Project Manager - Network Redesign Initiative

Scope of Position

This position is responsible for leading the initiation, planning, execution, and closure phases of a major Network Redesign project within a large enterprise Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Modernization program. The project is a collaboration with Cisco Systems and includes multiple network and security-focused workstreams. The Project Manager applies project management knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet delivery requirements related to cost, schedule, and scope, ensuring the program achieves its target-state goals of being Simple, Supportable, Secure, and Scalable.

Position Summary

The Project Manager will work within an IT Portfolio Management Office supporting a large-scale infrastructure modernization effort. The role requires experience leading enterprise-level technology projects and general familiarity with network technologies. Vendor management experience is essential.

The Project Manager will guide assigned workstreams through the full project lifecycle: planning, design, build, installation, go-live, knowledge transfer, and operational transition. The PM ensures consistent, high-quality execution of deliverables while balancing competing demands of scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and stakeholder expectations.

The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work with all levels of staff and leadership, and the ability to coordinate numerous priorities while demonstrating professionalism, transparency, and teamwork. The PM will work closely with a Program Manager to report status, manage risks and issues, highlight milestones, identify budget needs, and provide clear communication to stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope Development (15%)

Define project scope and objectives in collaboration with business customers, technical teams, and the PMO.

Assess hardware, software, and licensing needs and support customers in developing project budgets.

Discuss ROI where appropriate and ensure full alignment and acceptance of project scope.Requirements Elicitation (15%)

Validate that the proposed technology solution meets user needs.

Conduct interviews, workshops, site visits, and workflow analysis to gather formal requirements.

Distill and reconcile information from multiple sources and convert it into clear, documented requirements.

Produce requirement artifacts including functional requirements, business requirements, use cases, and interface designs.

Challenge assumptions and ensure requirements support successful execution.Project Lifecycle Management (30%)

Manage initiation, planning, execution, controlling, and closure activities.

Prepare project charters and secure approvals.

Lead technical and business teams through validation, installation, implementation, and transition activities.

Manage schedules, baselines, and dependencies across multiple initiatives.

Track progress, risks, and issues and report to stakeholders regularly.

Coordinate vendor activities and ensure alignment with project timelines.

Maintain quality management practices and documentation throughout the lifecycle.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously.Project Communication (10%)

Develop and execute project communication plans.

Deliver presentations and updates to stakeholders, leadership, and external partners.

Serve as primary liaison between sponsors, internal teams, technical staff, and vendors.Budget Planning & Reporting (10%)

Assist in budget planning efforts for hardware, software, and purchased services.

Support the development of RFPs and vendor cost comparisons.

Ensure accurate billing and cost tracking.Professional Development (10%)

Stay current on industry best practices and standards related to project management and infrastructure initiatives.

Maintain PMI certification through ongoing training and professional activities.

Participate in relevant professional organizations.Process Improvement (5%)

Research and recommend process improvements as the PMO evolves.

Participate in internal task forces and improvement initiatives.

Adopt new PMO processes and standards.Other Responsibilities (5%)

Respond to work-related communications and maintain documentation repositories.

Create and maintain training guides and operational procedures.

Complete required organizational training and maintain certifications if required.
