Job Title: GRG & GFRC Mold Maker
Position Summary
The GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum) & GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) Mold Maker is
responsible for fabricating precise, durable molds used in the production of architectural components
including columns, domes, cornices, panels, and ornamental elements. This role requires strong
knowledge of mold-making techniques, advanced craftsmanship, and the ability to interpret
architectural drawings with accuracy. The Mold Maker works closely with engineering and production
teams to ensure all molds meet quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Mold Fabrication & Assembly
- Construct molds for GRG and GFRC components using wood, fiberglass, silicone, rubber, plaster,
and composite materials.
- Create positive and negative mold forms based on drawings, templates, and 3D models.
- Apply release agents, reinforcement, and surface preparation methods to ensure clean castings.
- Repair, modify, and maintain molds to support production.
Technical & Production Duties
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and CAD shop drawings.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and production leads.
- Ensure molds meet dimensional accuracy through measurement and quality checks.
- Operate shop equipment (saws, routers, sanders, hand tools, pneumatic tools).
- Mix and apply gel coats, resins, gypsum slurry, and GFRC materials as needed.
Quality, Safety & Workflow
- Follow all safety procedures for chemicals, resins, composites, and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Improve mold-making processes for efficiency and consistency.
- Document mold construction steps as needed.Qualifications
Required:
- 3–5+ years experience in mold making (GRG, GFRC, FRP, or composites).
- Strong understanding of mold-building materials and casting processes.
- Skilled in carpentry, hand tooling, composite layup, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to read technical drawings with accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in architectural precast or specialty composites.
- Familiarity with CNC tooling, digital models, or 3D-printed patterns.
- Knowledge of GRG/GFRC mix designs and curing behavior.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs.
- Standing, bending, and tool use for extended periods.
- Comfortable in a fabrication shop environment with dust, noise, and chemicals (PPE provided).
Work Environment
Production/manufacturing environment; may require overtime for project deadlines.Company Description
