Job Description

The TAFT Armor Gunnery Instructor is responsible for delivering advanced instruction across the Master Gunner Common Core (MGCC) and associated training modules. This role provides in depth teaching on direct fire engagement, weapons employment, turret operations, ammunition and ballistics, gunnery table progression, and unit level gunnery management.

The instructor conducts both classroom instruction and hands on training using turret trainers, fire control systems, and field-based practical exercises. The position requires mastery of M1A2 Abrams weapon systems, gunnery fundamentals, ballistic computation, and maintenance practices relevant to gunnery operations.

The TAFT Armor Gunnery Instructor plays a critical role in developing partner nation armor crew proficiency by teaching doctrinally accurate techniques, reinforcing safety standards, evaluating student mastery, and ensuring readiness for all gunnery related tasks.

Key Duties

• Deliver technical instruction on target detection, identification, and engagement using M1A2 Abrams fire control components, optics, and turret equipment.

• Teach gunnery fundamentals including range estimation, ballistic principles, ammunition effects, engagement sequencing, and firing position considerations.

• Train students to execute and manage gunnery tables, coordinate crew actions, and assess firing accuracy through structured live fire and dry fire exercises.

• Conduct training on turret operations, including power up procedures, stabilization systems, sensor alignment, boresighting, and fire control troubleshooting.

• Provide instruction on unit level gunnery management, including planning range events, scheduling, ammunition forecasting, safety requirements, and evaluation criteria.

• Lead hands on training modules using simulators, turret trainers, and scenario driven engagements to develop crew coordination, communication, and tactical decision making.

• Evaluate student performance through practical exercises, written assessments, and hands on turret tasks; deliver counseling and tailored remediation when required.

• Reinforce maintenance fundamentals tied to gunnery readiness, ensuring students understand correct inspection procedures, fault identification, and basic corrective maintenance.

• Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, doctrinal standards, and training quality measures throughout classroom, simulator, and field environments.

Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience in an operational armor unit.

• Prior service as a US Army MOS 19K or USMC MOS 1812.

• Working knowledge of M240 and M1A2 Abrams systems as utilized within Iraqi MoD inventory.
