Description

The Linn County Secondary Road department is seeking two motivated and resourceful interns to join our Engineering team for the 2026 summer season. In this role, you will have the opportunity for hands-on experience in a variety of engineering projects, both in the field and in the Engineer's office.

Hourly wage: $20

Essential Functions

Performs beginning level work in the Engineer's Office or in the field; may work as a surveyor aide, inspector aide or beginning draftsman.

Works with total station, global positioning system (GPS), electronic distance measuring equipment, electronic data collectors, computers, survey tools and other hand tools.

Obtains data pertaining to topography, control points, angles, elevations, contours, and other information used for project design and construction.

Performs entry level computer aided drafting (CAD) or geographic information system (GIS) data entry and collection.

Observes weighing of materials at concrete or asphalt plant and quarry and observes placement of concrete or asphalt on the roadway.

Inspects construction and grading projects, prepares construction material samples for testing, cleans and cares for surveying tools and equipment, performs scheduled servicing on assigned trucks and equipment and maintains records of service.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Coursework in the engineering field preferred; experience in a related field preferred

Possession of a valid driver's license required

Basic knowledge of elementary mathematics

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Ability to work outdoors under varying conditions

Ability to use hand tools, survey instruments, testing equipment, and drafting equipment

Ability to maintain and service vehicles and equipment

Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment

Monday - Friday

7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
