Maninframe Administrator
Key Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/OS and related subsystems including VTAM, CICS, DB2, IMS, and MQ Series
• Provide technical support for a 24/7/365 mission-critical environment, ensuring high availability and system performance
• Conduct system and application troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
• Monitor and maintain mainframe network infrastructure, including VTAM configurations and protocols
• Support and manage job control (JCL) environments and batch processing systems
• Manage and troubleshoot system tools including:
o Rocket TMON (MVS, DB2, CICS, MQ)
o BMC Tools: AbendAid, FileAid, Xpediter, Control-M, etc.
o CA/Broadcom Tools: Top Secret (TSS), Librarian, Dynam TLMS, Solve Session Manager
o Levi, Ray & Shoup Print Utilities: VPS, DRS, VPS/IPDS
o ChicagoSoft QuickRef and JES2Mail Reporter/Splitter
• Implement and monitor security and access control measures using Top Secret (TSS)
• Manage storage systems and performance tuning of applications and subsystems
• Utilize mainframe automation tools to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention
• Coordinate with development, security, and network teams to ensure system integrity and alignment with enterprise goals
• Create and maintain detailed documentation including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and system failover testing
• Respond to incidents and service desk tickets, providing timely resolutions and root cause analysis
• Work independently and as part of a collaborative technical team in a structured support environment
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM mainframe technologies, including:
o z/OS, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ Series
• 10+ years of system programming experience with specialization in mainframe networking (e.g., VTAM)
• In-depth experience supporting mission-critical systems in a 24x7x365 environment
• Expertise with mainframe performance and diagnostic tools such as Rocket TMON and Xpediter
• Proficiency with BMC, CA/Broadcom, and LRS toolsets
• Knowledge of mainframe security protocols, access control (TSS), and compliance standards (CJIS/NIST)
• Strong understanding of mainframe automation and job scheduling using Control-M
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in high-pressure environments
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation
• Ability to manage multiple complex technical projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with government, criminal justice, or public safety systems
• Familiarity with modernization and migration strategies for legacy mainframe applications
• Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting collaborative technical environments
