Mill Operations Trainer
Reporting to the Mill Superintendent, the Mill Operations Trainer will be primarily responsible for delivering quality training to McEwen Inc’s Mill employees while ensuring full compliance with OHSA regulations and McEwen Safety Standards. The Mill Operations Trainer will assist with the reviewing as well as development of SOP’s and training plans for Mill employees ensuring signoffs are completed and properly recorded and stored accordingly. The duties encompass the full training cycle from entry into workforce through development and the evaluation stages.
The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative, and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.
Operational / Technical Execution
Planning, scheduling and execution of training programs and activities.
Coaching and mentoring the employees to provide necessary guidance and feedback to help improve the performance and skills.
Promote a safe working culture for the Mill Operations team.
Complete reports and maintain accurate records of training activities and employee progress.
Assess employee’s knowledge and skills through observations and practical evaluations.
Ensure all procedures and SOP’s are compliant with OHSA and McEwen Safety Standards.
Ability to plan and schedule programs and activities.
Reporting and reviewing all incidents that occur in the Milling environment.
Approving necessary documents/files with Mill and Company departments.
Participate in the creation and updating of standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
Determining what goods or services may be required within the Milling environment as well as quantities.
The timely submission of requisitions involving the purchase of goods and/or services deemed necessary for Mill and operation’s needs.
General Administration and Controls
Conduct audits of training programs and SOPs on a regular basis.
Developing the necessary training programs, documents and files.
Maintain all documentation and plans with up-to-date changes as the occur.
Keep accurate records relating to any changes within relevant programs/files accurately.
Leader of all training documentation as well as the upkeep of training files.
Leader of training/work-permit matrix files for Mill staff.
In charge of digitization while maintaining all of the existing files electronically.
Participate in safety and other crew meetings, focusing on the continued education of the workers for updates/changes to any regulations in relevant areas such as the OH&S Act.
Participate in daily/weekly planning meetings.
Participate in all safety programs.
Lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, quality of work, and efficiency.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to the mill team, ensuring high standards of performance and fostering a positive, safety-focused work environment while being an advocate of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS)
Work in compliance with McEwen Ontario’s safety rules and the Internal Responsibility System (IRS).
Act as a resource for all training requirements in the mill environment.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental or any policy, procedures, or requirement of McEwen Inc.
Use skills, knowledge, and experience in the field to contribute towards continuous improvement.
Always protect the safety and well-being of yourself and your co-workers.
Qualifications and Skills Requirement
Legal to work within Canada.
Must hold a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have a reliable means of transportation.
Experienced in all aspects of Mill Operations; this includes but is not limited to operating crushing plants, grinding circuit, elution, leach circuits, CIL, thickener, water treatment and refinery.
Experienced in operating mobile equipment such as but not limited to; front end loader, skid steers and excavators.
Train the Trainer certification preferred.
Strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Work well in a team atmosphere.
Self-motivated and able to work well independently.
Be proficient with MS Windows and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Sovfie, D365, etc.
Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize hazards and situations that may cause problems.
Able to lift 50 pounds and complete a lot of walking, including up and down steps across Mill.
Must have a mastery of patience in order to explain and demonstrate correct work techniques as this may need to be repeatedly covered.
Willingness to learn and/or be guided by other Mill staff.
