Equipment Operator

Under the direction of the Construction Foreman, the incumbent must be proficient in operating heavy equipment such as Bulldozers, Excavators, Loaders, Vibratory Compactors, Backhoes and 12-16 Ton Dual Drum Roller Compactors.

High School diploma and/or GED plus a minimum of five years of experience in the operation of several of the above cited pieces of equipment.

Field test of equipment operation may be required.

Must be able to read a grading plan.

Must be able to recognize Call Before You Dig colors.

Must maintain a valid driver's license or Class II driver's license.

Must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History.

This position has mandatory 24 hour on-call duty from November 1 to April 30.

There is a mandatory snow removal duty whereupon the incumbent must report to work regardless of approved time off.

Additionally, the remainder of the year requires 24 hour on call work status.

The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.

May be transferred into any division within the Public Works Department as needed or assigned.

May work overtime, including on call, during construction installations which may involve long hours of work.
