Job Summary

North Windham School seeks a certified Spanish Reading Interventionist to support the development of foundational literacy skills and reading comprehension in Spanish for K-4 Dual Language program students whose native or second language is Spanish. Candidate should demonstrate Spanish and English language proficiency and strong knowledge of linguistics and early literacy development in Spanish for emergent bilinguals. The ideal candidate possesses CT endorsement 902 (Bilingual Elementary Ed). A Spanish Reading Interventionist is expected to work in collaboration with Dual Language classroom teachers and other interventionists and service providers.

Essential Duties

Ensure the safety of students.

Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education

Sets and reinforces clear expectations and routines

Manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment

Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom

Demonstrates strong content knowledge

Maintains accurate and complete records as required

Conducts parent/teacher conferences

Assesses student learning continuously and identifies areas for intervention as needed.

Keeps parents up-to-date on student progress through the use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences

Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

Designs and implements assessments that measure progress and uses assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices.

Designs clear and specific learning assessments

Maintains a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner

Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior

Maintains ongoing communication with parents

Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials

Establishes and maintains professional relationships

Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

Knows teaching methods, materials, and educational practices for secondary school teaching

Maintain respect at all times for confidential information

Assist with Physical Management (PMT), if needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials

Establish and maintain professional relationships

Participate in professional development by attending seminars, workshops, and taking college coursework, among other activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor of the Arts or Bachelor of Science

CT Bilingual Elementary Ed (902) and Remedial Reading/Language Arts (102) certifications required

Proof or demonstration of Spanish proficiency

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate.

Additional Working Conditions:

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue

Interaction among children

Operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on school days except calamity days.

Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing

Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hand and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop

Frequent interruption of duties by staff, students, visitors, and/or telephone calls

Occasional requirement to travel, both daily and overnight

Occasional need to work overtime, evenings, and/or weekends

Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push, and/or pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds

Calculator: Ability to use current technology

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions set by the Windham Public Schools.
