Registered Nurse, 12 noon - 8 pm
The evening registered nurse position at Choate Rosemary Hall is a unique opportunity to care for students in a residential boarding school setting. The position requires interest and ability to work autonomously as well as part of a health center team. In consultation with our nurse practitioners and adolescent specialist physician, the evening registered nurse provides nursing care for students in our school-based health center which includes a 10 bed infirmary.
The Health Center is open 24 hours/day during the academic year and when summer school is in session.
The evening registered nurse provides triage, first-aid and other care to students. This position requires exceptional clinical and organizational skills, flexibility, and a love of working with teens. Effective, nonjudgmental and compassionate communication with students and families, faculty, staff and the entire health center team is essential.
This position is full-time, scheduled to work the academic year for the evening shift: Monday-Friday. It is a non-exempt position and eligible for benefits and paid time off. Shift differentials paid for evening, night, and weekend hours.
Triage and assess students who may need admission to the Health Center
Provide emergency first aid and prepare students for urgent care referral
Ability to work independently and in consultation with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and Director of Counseling
Work in partnership with community safety officers and school employees to receive students who may need admission to the Health Center
Regularly communicate with student families and school employees as needed
Complete electronic health records
Maintain inventory and stock levels for health center materials and supplies
Assure quality control for all CLIA-waived tests and lab equipment, including ordering and maintaining tests and equipment
Change beds, provide clean linens and towels, set up and ensure that Health Center rooms are clean and welcoming
Maintain organization of kitchen and provide nutrition to students
Prioritization of health needs of admitted students
Requirements
Excellent clinical skills and clinical judgment
Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing program
Current nursing registration from the State of Connecticut
Demonstrated capacity to work independently with excellent triage, assessment, and emergency first aid skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and set clinical priorities
Familiarity and experience with EMR technology
Excellent communication skills
Interest and experience working with teens and families from diverse backgrounds and cultures
