Reports to: Executive Director of Elementary Education

Pay Grade: According to PISD Salary Schedule

Primary Purpose:

Support the improvement of Mathematics instruction in PISD schools through curriculum, instruction, assessment,

and professional development. Facilitate and lead the development and implementation of Tier I and Tier II district

Mathematics curriculum. Provide curriculum leadership to ensure an aligned and articulated math instructional

program. Ensure that the development and delivery of the mathematics curriculum and the supporting

instructional program is effective and efficient, incorporates district goals, and supports student achievement.

Work collaboratively within a high-performance team to ensure student success through the use of best practices

in mathematics instruction. Work collaboratively with departments serving special populations, such as ELs and

SPED. Coordinate assessment of student achievement and analyze data to inform curriculum and instruction

decisions. Provide/facilitate district and campus-level professional development.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Master's degree preferred

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Math

Valid ESL Supplemental Certification

Math Academy Certification

Minimum of 30 Gifted & Talented clock hours or a commitment to complete the required hours

Willingness to obtain additional certifications (as needed)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Advanced level of curriculum development

Advanced level of working knowledge of TEKS

Working knowledge of STAAR, STAAR data disaggregation and organizational impact

Working knowledge of RBIS and best instructional practices for early elementary classrooms

Demonstrated skills in human relations, leadership, and mentoring

Awareness of and ability to relate well to diverse populations

Possess strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, effective teaching practices, and assessment

Possess knowledge of the latest trends in curriculum and curriculum development

Possess knowledge of effective instructional practices and strategies

Possess knowledge of effectively using data to inform and drive instruction

Possess knowledge of best practices for intervention

Exhibit strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability as a presenter/facilitator

Demonstrated ability to design and implement professional development

Have knowledge, understanding, and value of technology in public school education

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of effective and appropriate resources and materials

Display ability to model and utilize effective instructional practices to both teachers and students

Ability to interpret data and develop action plans, curriculum guides, scope and sequence and

other instructional tools

Ability to communicate effectively with teachers and campus/district administrators

Possess initiative, flexibility, and exercise good judgment

Ability to analyze and interpret student, campus, and district data and use the data to inform

curriculum development and needs assessment

Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of PISD

Experience:

Master Teacher, Lead Teacher, or Instructional Specialist preferred

Experience in curriculum development and alignment

Experience in supporting teachers in the acquisition of new skills

Five years experience of successful teaching

Three years experience in instructional leadership role, preferred

Major Duties and Responsibilities Leadership:

1. Oversee the development and delivery of mathematics curriculum and instructional

programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement.

2. Lead the review, development, and revision of all subject area programs related to

mathematics and the corresponding curriculum documents and material, including

curriculum guides, course outlines, lesson plans, and intervention plans.

3. Participate in the district-level decision making process to establish and review the

district's mathematics goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs

related to mathematics.

4. Monitor and reevaluate instructional programs on an ongoing basis using input from

teachers and Instructional Coaches, applied research, and student data to determine

effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments.

5. Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support

accomplishment of education goals are available.

6. Collaborate with Instructional Coaches, principals, teachers, and other instructional staff

to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on a systematic review

and analysis.

7. Evaluate and select instructional tools and materials to meet student learning needs.

8. Facilitate staff development in mathematics and provide effective activities that support

the mathematics instructional program.

9. Work collaboratively with vertical and horizontal teams and grade levels to ensure a

quality instructional program.

10. Support Instructional Coaches and teachers so that they are able to provide quality instruction

for all students.

11. Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills with teachers and

administrators at all levels.

12. Demonstrate and maintain high standards of professional conduct.

Curriculum and Instruction; Professional Development:

13. Support the district's instructional vision for deep student understanding.

14. Knowledgeable about research in best practices for instruction and intervention.

15. Assist the Instructional Coaches and campus administration in ensuring the implementation of

the district curriculum and intervention program.

16. Maintain a current and deep understanding of district curriculum.

17. Assist teachers in developing and implementing plans with students to raise performance

levels, including targeted interventions plans developed using in depth data analysis.

18. Develop rigorous, district TEKS-aligned assessments.

19. Assist principals and teachers in disaggregation of class/grade level/subject specific data and

identification of strategies for improvement, including strategies to use for targeted

intervention.

20. Assist teachers/staff in understanding and implementing differentiation and enrichment

strategies in instructional methods.

21. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state

and national levels in mathematics.

22. Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs, intervention programs, and resources.

23. Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in mathematics.

Assessment:

24. Develop district assessments.

25. Assist in the collection and disaggregation of district data to develop actions that address

present and future needs.

26. Analyze system-wide testing results and assist teachers in the utilization for program

improvement.

Budget & Other:

27. Keep informed of and comply with stated, district and school regulations and policies.

28. Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other

documentation as required.

29. Ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.

30. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals,

teachers, staff, parents, and community members.

31. Articulate the district's mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation

strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district's mission.

32. All other duties as assigned.

Work with frequent interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress.
