The Department of Physics within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Manager, Instructional Aid to lead and advance the operations of physics instructional laboratories and classroom demonstrations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing guidelines and procedures that support the department’s strategic goals for continuous modernizing and improving instructional labs and demonstrations.

The Manager, Instructional Aid is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating staff; managing workflow and scheduling for two technical support staff, one part-time professional staff member, and several student assistants. The role works closely with faculty to coordinate both short-term and long-term laboratory functions, serves as a technical and strategic advisor; influences decisions on equipment selection, instructional design, and resource allocation.

Additional responsibilities include the design, acquisition, and maintenance of laboratory and classroom equipment and the planning and organization of outreach events to meet evolving instructional needs. The Manager translates medium-term (1–2 year) goals formulated by the vice chairs for administration and undergraduate studies into actionable plans; develops and manages initiatives to deliver results.

This position also serves as a technical consultant to faculty and staff on matters such as new equipment selection, technical specifications, product evaluation, and feasibility.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in physics or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (advance degree desirable).

At least 5 years of relevant experience in instructional laboratory operations, classroom demonstrations, or related academic environments.

Considerable knowledge of laboratory methods, materials, and instructional equipment.

Experience in the mechanical and electrical aspects of laboratory equipment design and fabrication.

Experience supervising staff or student employees in an instructional or technical support setting.

Experience using audio/visual and computer technologies in physics classrooms and educational laboratories, and knowledge of operations of classes and instructional laboratories in physics.

Target Hiring Range: $58,700-$77,200
