KEY RESULT AREAS:
Patient Care Responsibilities:
Responsible for nursing functions related to the treatment programs in Project Turnabout.
Assist the patients in maintaining and improving their physical status.
Prepare and maintain the health records of patients, including admission paperwork (both written and electronic).
Participate in developing/implementing individual treatment plans for patients.
Correspond with providers and any other health care professionals on a regular basis for the care of patients.
Maintain and adhere to established infection control/employee health program.
Dispense medication as prescribed.
Accurately assess detoxification withdrawal according to CIWA/COWS assessment scales.
Implement standing orders as deemed necessary.
Coordinate emergency medical care for medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Meet with patients one-on-one to address personal health concerns.
Perform medication education for patients.
Enter Procentive notes for all patient interactions.
Accept and admit all detox patients according to admission criteria policy.
Obtain 72-hour hold orders from law enforcement and/or medical doctors.
Administer dietary orders and education as needed and ordered.
Take all professional phone calls as needed, including after hours and on weekends.
Perform continual follow-ups on all patient cases.
Communicate with RN/MSU Supervisor regarding patient needs.
Perform counts of controlled medications at the beginning of each shift.
Maintains a “patient-first” focus, communicating with other staff on the unit to ensure the best outcomes for patients at Project Turnabout.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direct and monitor technicians on duty (in the absence of the MSU Supervisor).
Performs after-hour and weekend staff replacement and authorization
Performs training of new nurses and techs in Central Med.
Conduct meetings and lectures in a group and/or individual setting.
Bring concerns or disagreements to the MSU supervisor first in order to resolve issues within the unit.
If concerns/disagreements are not resolved in a timely manner after this initial attempt then reach out to HR or higher leadership.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Attend and participate in professional workshops, to enhance personal/professional competency.
Maintain licensure and/or professional certification by attending state-required workshops and training to attain CEU’s.
Maintain and renew First Aid and CPR certification prior to expiration.
Maintain professional boundaries and be respectful to staff and patients.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Dress and groom oneself according to the professional standards of the organization.
Refrain from creating or participating in gossip of any kind.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to walk and stand 75% of time on the job.
Sitting at a computer terminal and talking to patients and staff about 25% of time.
Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
Must have good vision and hearing.
Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds in weight and assist (with 1 or 2 other staff) transferring 200 plus pounds (patients).
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be currently licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
All nurse applicants must be able to document at two (2) years freedom from alcohol/ gambling use problems.
Must meet Minnesota Department of Human Services background study approval.
Proficient with computers and using web-based programs.
Previous EHR/EMR experience preferred.
