Become part of our collaborative City team! We're looking for a passionate leader to guide our Volunteer and Community Services programs. You will lead the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers, while also helping develop programs to support older adults in our community. Bring your expertise in community engagement and volunteer management to enhance the lives of older adults in our community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

As part of the Parks and Recreation team, reporting directly to the Parks and Recreation Deputy Director, this position is responsible for oversight, leadership, and development of all aspects of the volunteer and community services program including recruitment, interviewing, orientation, training and evaluating volunteers.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

Community Engagement and Services:

Evaluate current services offered to older adults and identify opportunities for enhancement or expansion.

Participate in community engagement to promote current community services and evaluate needs for additional services.

Receive and address requests from older adults and other residents for community services, facilitating connections with appropriate internal and external resources.

Identify and explore new service opportunities for older adults, including transportation and in-home services.

Collaborate with recreation programming staff to provide enrichment and socialization opportunities for older adults.

Volunteer Management:

Oversee City's Volunteer Program including identify, recruit, train, assign, schedule, evaluate, and recognize volunteers; ensure volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities; and utilize volunteers strategically to enhance the City's capacity to deliver services to older adults.

Maintain all aspects of the volunteer database, including background checks, donated hours, contact information, and volunteer assignments.

Provide guidance to staff working with volunteers.

Create and prepare all communications with volunteers.

Manage volunteer support at various park and community events.

Facilitate connections between older adults requesting services and suitable volunteers to assist them.

Policy and Procedure Development:

Maintain updated knowledge of all regulations governing volunteers; proactively update Parks and Recreation volunteer policies and procedures and related manuals as necessary.

Develop, implement, and oversee City policies related to volunteer management and the provision of services for older adults.

Administrative and Analytical Tasks:

Assess organizational needs for volunteers and identify new opportunities for volunteer utilization.

Assess and recommend software solutions to support the management and administration of volunteer services and community programs.

Track, analyze, and report data pertaining to services provided to older adults and volunteer engagement.

Investigate and manage opportunities for securing grant funding to support volunteer and community services.

Performs other duties as required. (5%)

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's Degree in related field is strongly preferred. Minimum two (2) years of experience in education or social service setting working with older adults. Prior municipal experience helpful. Skilled experience in technology applications, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Previous volunteer history or previous work with volunteers.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

CPR Certification; First Aid Certification; valid State of Ohio Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); is exposed to possible injury from unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment of machines; ascends scaffolds/ladders; works in or around crowds; occasionally lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects 25 lbs. or less.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal indoor environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust.

The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately quiet.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
