Description

The Early Childhood Dance Instructor is responsible for planning and leading engaging and age-appropriate dance classes and camps for children ages 2 to 7. This position requires prior experience teaching dance, particularly to young children. The instructor must be capable of teaching styles including Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, and Combination classes in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate manner.

Examples of Duties

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Plan and implement skill-appropriate lesson plans that follow a logical progression.

Provide clear information to students and families about class structure and expectations.

Create a fun, inclusive, and safe learning environment for students to explore dance.

Take and maintain accurate class attendance records.

Ensure dance studios and storage areas are neat, clean, and organized.

Select and manage music and choreography appropriate for each age group and class.

Demonstrate movements and routines with enthusiasm and clarity.

Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.

Dress in professional, dance-appropriate attire during work hours.

Follow instructions and guidance provided by the Recreation Supervisor.

Address public concerns and inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.

Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

Formal dance training required; a college degree in dance or a related field is preferred.

Prior experience teaching dance and working with children aged 2-7.

Ability to teach a variety of dance styles and levels in a group setting.

Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Positive, patient, and responsive approach to young children's behavior and development.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Professional demeanor and a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all students.

Must have warm, friendly and patient teaching style.
