Position: Mainframe Z/VM Systems Technician
General Responsibilities
Install, configure, and implement IBM Mainframe Z/VM and Z/VSE operating systems, as well as Independent Software Vendor (ISV) software packages.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues related to IBM Mainframe environments.
Perform routine operating system and hardware maintenance, following IBM’s recommended update and patching schedules.
Maintain and update disaster recovery plans, ensuring readiness and alignment with organizational requirements.
Conduct capacity planning to support system performance, scalability, and long-term operational stability.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of Z/VM operating systems, including installation, configuration, and implementation of Z/VM, Z/Linux, and related ISV software.
Working knowledge of Z/VSE operating systems and associated administrative tasks.
Proficiency with IBM utilities such as IDCAMS, DITTO, and other mainframe support tools.
Experience maintaining disaster recovery procedures and conducting capacity planning initiatives.
Familiarity with z/OS or Z/Linux operating systems is preferred.
Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective resolutions.
Strong coordination skills for collaborating with technical support teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
Documentation & Productivity Tools
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation, reporting, and presentation tasks.
Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures, and support materials.
Communication Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
Ability to clearly articulate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
