Position Overview
Pathway Talent Partners is partnering with a privately held, multi-generation transportation company to identify an accomplished Controller to lead the organization's financial, administrative, and operational functions.
This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership opportunity for an executive who can modernize systems, strengthen processes, and align financial strategy with day-to-day fleet and field operations. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of strategic financial leadership and practical operational execution, enabling scalable infrastructure, improved reporting, and stronger communication across departments.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations for a multi-entity, multi-state transportation business
Manage and produce monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
Lead and streamline billing, invoicing, and documentation processes, including time & materials, labor, and equipment billing under master service agreements
Partner closely with an external accounting firm, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and review processes
Identify and resolve discrepancies
Supervise and support the accounting team, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, while collaborating closely with administrative leadership
Ensure compliance with multi-state tax filings, reporting requirements, and industry-specific regulations
Improve reporting, processes, and controls to support operational clarity and planned growth
Serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, balancing hands-on execution with thoughtful process improvement Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within services, transportation, logistics, construction, or rail-related industries
Prior experience at the Accounting Manager or Controller level
Strong working knowledge of Sage / Peachtree or similar ERP systems
Proven experience preparing monthly and quarterly financials
Experience working with external CPA firms and auditors
Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor small accounting teams
Familiarity with time & materials billing, service contracts, and invoicing under MSAs
Experience with multi-entity and multi-state accounting and tax compliance
Strong attention to detail with the ability to investigate and resolve variances
Comfortable in a hands-on, family-owned business environment
