At Bavarian Nordic, our Process Development department in Hørsholm plays a key role in advancing and optimizing vaccine production processes and analytical methods.
The department consists of approximately 30 dedicated colleagues organized into five specialized teams: Upstream Development, Downstream Virus Development, Protein Vaccine Development, Drug Product Development & Analysis, and Facility.
In this role, you will join the Upstream Development team and report directly to the team manager. You will work closely with a collaborative group of three scientists and five technicians in a dynamic, knowledge-sharing environment.
The Upstream Development team is responsible for end-to-end process development, from cell vial thawing to final product in bioreactors. The team establishes robust process parameters for cell growth and continuously optimizes conditions to maximize vaccine production following cell infection or transfection.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Driving upstream process development, characterization, and optimization for existing and new products and technology platforms
Addressing and resolving complex scientific and technical challenges within Process Development and in collaboration with manufacturing functions
Designing experimental studies and contributing to robust project planning
Authoring and reviewing technical documentation, including SOPs, protocols, reports, rationales, and memos
Collaborating effectively across the organization, working closely with colleagues in Process Development as well as Research, Manufacturing Science and Technology, Production, Regulatory Affairs, Global IP, and Quality
Are you our next pioneer?
To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:
You hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related scientific discipline.
You bring 3–5 years of relevant experience from the biotech industry and/or academia
Hands-on experience with aseptic manufacturing processes in biological production is an advantage
Experience working with upstream platforms, including bioreactors for cell and virus propagation, is desirable
You have solid statistical data analysis capabilities
You are fluent in spoken and written English
