Mechanical Superintendent
Position Overview
A top Columbus-based General Contractor is seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to oversee all mechanical construction activities on assigned local projects. This role is responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with project documents and quality standards. The Mechanical Superintendent coordinates field operations for HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping, fire protection interfaces, and related systems, working closely with subcontractors, engineers, and project leadership to deliver high-performing, fully functional building systems.

Key Responsibilities
Site & Field Management
Supervise and manage daily mechanical construction activities, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping system installations
Ensure mechanical subcontractors adhere to project schedules, safety plans, and quality expectations
Coordinate field operations with general trades, electrical, structural, and architectural teams to prevent conflicts and maintain workflow
Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, identify issues, and confirm compliance with plans, specifications, and code requirements
Scheduling & Coordination
Develop and maintain the mechanical portion of the project schedule, including look-ahead schedules
Lead and participate in mechanical coordination meetings with subcontractors, design teams, and project management
Support MEP coordination efforts, including review of shop drawings, submittals, and BIM model clashes
Quality Assurance
Inspect mechanical installations to verify conformance with plans, specifications, and company quality standards
Oversee testing, balancing, commissioning, and start-up activities for all mechanical systems
Ensure proper documentation of inspections, testing results, equipment start-ups, and system turnovers
Safety
Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations on all mechanical work
Participate in daily and weekly safety meetings and ensure subcontractor compliance with site safety plans
Identify potential safety hazards related to mechanical work and take immediate corrective action
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and as-built documentation related to mechanical activities
Assist with RFI development, change order identification, and resolution of field issues
Collaborate with project management on material procurement needs and delivery coordination
Stakeholder Communication
Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for mechanical subcontractors and vendors
Work closely with owners, commissioning agents, engineers, and inspectors during inspections and turnovers
Communicate schedule impacts, field obstacles, and resource needs to the Project Superintendent and Project Manager
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of experience supervising mechanical construction work (HVAC, plumbing, piping)
Strong understanding of building mechanical systems, building codes, and construction sequencing
Proven experience managing subcontractors and coordinating complex MEP installations
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, MEP shop drawings, and specifications
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
