Civmec is an Australian-owned, integrated, multidisciplinary heavy engineering and construction services provider to the energy, resources, infrastructure, marine and defence sectors. Our diversification enables us to operate extensively across the nation, supporting a wide range of landmark projects and providing variety and career development opportunities for our workforce.

Civmec is proud to be delivering the Concrete and Field Erect Tanks Package for the Iluka Rare Earth Refinery—Australia’s first fully integrated rare earths facility and a cornerstone of the nation’s critical minerals strategy. With construction already underway, this civil scope includes excavation, formwork, reinforcement, final trim, and backfill. As the project gains momentum, we’re now seeking an experienced HSE Superintendent to take the lead in driving safety excellence across the project.

This role is based at the Iluka Rare Earth Refinery site in Eneabba, approximately 274km north of Perth, Western Australia.

We offer a 2:1 DIDO roster, providing a balanced schedule that supports both productivity and personal wellbeing. All transportation to and from site is provided via Perth Airport.

The Role

As HSE Superintendent, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a culture of safety excellence across the project.

Your main duties will include:

Establishing and implementing a compliant HSE Management System tailored to the project scope

Auditing and inspecting site-specific HSE systems to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness

Designing and rolling out new HSE initiatives that drive continuous improvement

Compiling and distributing HSE reports, including incident investigations and trend analyses

Communicating HSE requirements clearly across project and corporate teams

Supporting risk identification and mitigation processes to ensure all activities are reduced to ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable)

Leading incident investigations and delivering findings to project and management teams for action and learning

KPIs

Submit monthly HSE reports within 5 days of month-end

Conduct comprehensive monthly HSE audits across the site

Ensure all HSE-related actions are closed out within 30 days

Actively promote HSE initiatives and foster awareness among site personnel

Perform additional duties as required to meet evolving project needs

About You

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) or Work Health & Safety (WHS)

Certification in ICAM or Taproot incident investigation methodologies

At least 10 years’ experience in a similar HSE leadership role on remote construction or mining sites

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Hands-on experience with HSE databases and reporting systems

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
