Data Developer/DBA

Job Description

Phoenix Energy is seeking an experienced Intermediate Data Developer / DBA for our Denver office. This role combines SQL Server development, DBA responsibilities, Azure data engineering, and BI/data modeling support. The ideal candidate brings practical experience with Oil & Gas data and can confidently build and maintain data workflows that support production, operations, accounting, and finance.

This is a high-impact role with significant ownership over data pipelines, database structures, and reporting datasets.

Attention to detail and data accuracy is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

Database Development & Administration

- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and schema objects.

- Perform DBA tasks including indexing strategies, query tuning, backup/restore, security, and performance tuning.

- Maintain and improve database structure, standards, and governance.

Azure Data Engineering

- Build and maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines and orchestrated workflows.

- Develop and manage Data Lake ingestion, transformations, and curated datasets.

- Troubleshoot data quality issues and pipeline failures.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

- Build Spotfire data sets, transformations, and calculated columns.

- Deliver dependable KPIs and operational dashboards for engineering, operations, and leadership.

- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver accurate solutions.

Oil & Gas Domain Work

- Support production data workflows, downtime coding, LOE/AFE reporting, completions data, SCADA feeds, and well header management.

- Collaborate closely with engineers, operations teams, and finance.

Qualifications

Required

- 2–5 years of development, DBA, or data engineering experience.

- Strong SQL Server proficiency (complex queries, performance tuning, indexing, stored procedures).

- Azure experience: ADF, Data Lake, SQL DB/MI, or Synapse.

- Experience with Spotfire or equivalent BI tools.

- Solid understanding of upstream Oil & Gas data workflows.

- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment.

- Extreme attention to detail.

- Soft Python or R skills are a plus.

Preferred

- Experience with Aries, WellView/OpenWells, ProCount/Merrick, BOLO/Enertia, SCADA systems.

- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD processes.

- Familiarity with decline curves, downtime coding workflows, artificial lift, or completions datasets.
