DevTech is looking for a UX/UI designer to work as an institutional contractor on its Analytics, Data, Visualization, and Information Services 2.0 (ADVISE 2.0) contract with the United States Department of State. The UX/UI designer will work with the Office of Global Food Security (GFS) to support Humanitarian Assistance (HA) across the State Department. The UX/UI designer and Analyst will support the Humanitarian Data, Assessment, & Coordination unit within GFS' Technical Quality & Assurance Division. The Humanitarian Data, Assessment, & Coordination unit strives to create and share decision support products with humanitarian assistance decision makers to improve their understanding of humanitarian needs, internal and external humanitarian data, and to improve the quality and targeting of global humanitarian assistance in crisis settings.

Overall, this role is responsible for the look, feel and clarity of how the team's data graphics are visually presented. This role will perform user interface and user experience design functions across various digital assets as an integral staff member in the HA data space. The successful candidate will evidence a passion for delivering adaptive and creative solutions to UI/UX design problems by staying up to date with best practices and emerging trends in user experience design and user interface technology. Most importantly, this role will facilitates accessing data that will support HA staff decision making.

Responsibilities are as follows:

Ensure that all elements of the online user experience are optimized for improved usability, usefulness to HA decision making, and exceptional visual design.

Investigate user experience design requirements for our suite of data products.

Develop and conceptualize a comprehensive UI/UX design strategy for the brand. Ensure this strategy is consistently applied across the portfolio and supports HA decision making.

Produce high quality UX design solutions through wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes.

Collaborating with data analysts to ensure visual outputs are accurate, comprehensible, and aligned with audience and decision support needs.

Ensure UI designs meet accessibility standards.

Design UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets for our digital assets.

Test UI elements such as CTAs, banners, page layouts, page designs, page flows, and target links for landing pages.

Adhere to style standards on typography and graphic design.

Contribute to UX research and analysis to gather data about the target end user and their decision support needs.

Provide advice and guidance on the implementation of UX research methodologies and testing activities in order to analyze and predict user behavior.

Document design rationale and decisions for team alignment.

Design with sensitivity to a global audiences and varied connectivity environments.

Demonstrate flexibility by taking on adjacent responsibilities as needed in a small, fast moving team environment to ensure project goals are met.

Engage in continuous learning about the HA sector to ensure design decisions reflect real world constraints, ethical considerations, and stakeholder perspectives and their decision support needs. General

As needed, may serve on temporary detail within the bureau to meet operational needs during staff shortages. Duties performed while on detail will be aligned with the Team's existing duties and responsibilities and will be directly related to the scope of work provided.

A bachelor's degree in computer or information science and a minimum of 5 years' UI/UX design experience for digital products or services.

A portfolio of professional UI/UX design work for both web and mobile platforms.

Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe CC, or similar.

Working knowledge of the following technologies and software: Sketch, InVision, Visio, HTML, CSS (SCSS), iOS, Android, Design Systems and Adobe Creative Suite.

A team player but able to work independently.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to work well in a diverse team.

The candidate must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for the required U.S. government security clearance for this project

This position's place of performance is Washington D.C. Remote work has been authorized for this position.
