About the Internship
Structural Interns quickly gain valuable experience working on critical transportation infrastructure including buildings and bridges, and learning the various aspects of Structural design, from project conception through construction. The Structural Division of the Engineering department is involved in all aspects of a project, and the internship is geared to allow candidates to learn and develop their specific areas of interest in the field of Structural Design.
Responsibilities
Assist experienced Port Authority Structural Engineers with site visits, development of project scope and design, preparing design computations and details, and resolution of construction issues for bridges, buildings, tunnels and other structures, at a variety of Port Authority facilities
Draft meeting minutes for design progress meetings.
Prepare estimates of construction quantities and construction costs.
Assist with Construction Cost Estimates
Prepare design schedules and structural design details.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
Major in Structural Engineering or related discipline
Desired Qualifications
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strung visualization and familiarity with structural software and modeling.
Strong problem-solving skills
Previous office or field experience in an Civil/Structural project environment.
Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regional transportation.
Willingness to learn.
Internship Details
The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
