Summary Description
This position performs varied legal functions in support of assigned criminal docket. An Assistant County Attorney may be classified as an "Assistant County Attorney II" or "Senior Assistant County Attorney" on the compensation schedule at the discretion of the County Attorney.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Criminal Docket
Prosecutes criminal matters on behalf of the State of Iowa and of Story County.
Reviews criminal investigations as requested by law enforcement agencies.
Provides training to law enforcement on legal updates, trial matters, and investigatory updates.
Provides information to the public when on call with law enforcement related questions.
Responds to litigation post-conviction relief actions.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of the Code of Iowa.
Knowledge of Iowa case law.
Knowledge of civil, criminal, and/or juvenile justice procedures.
Knowledge of the Iowa rules of criminal and civil procedure.
Knowledge of trial proceedings.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in the completion of legal research.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of law.
Current membership in the State Bar of Iowa.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an clerkship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
