Right of Way Agent

Overview

This opportunity is with a well-established leader in utility engineering and construction that has been supporting communities for decades. As a Right of Way Agent, you will play an important role in supporting utility projects by helping secure access to property, analyzing land records, and serving as a liaison between internal teams, property owners, and external partners.

Position Summary

The Right of Way Agent is responsible for learning and performing all functions related to the acquisition and management of utility right-of-way. No prior right-of-way experience is required — comprehensive training is provided. This role combines fieldwork, research, communication, and problem-solving to help ensure utility projects move forward smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Research and identify land and property ownership using public records and county databases.

Review, analyze, and interpret title documents, easements, deeds, and other land rights information.

Learn to negotiate with property owners to secure right-of-way agreements and permissions.

Interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and survey data to understand project impacts.

Maintain accurate documentation of all contacts, agreements, and activities.

Act as a liaison between internal departments, property owners, customers, and external agencies to support right-of-way activities.

Support project managers and field teams by providing necessary property and access information.

Assist with resolving obstacles or issues related to land access, easements, or property concerns.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; prior customer service, fieldwork, real estate, or administrative experience is a plus.

Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with property owners, coworkers, and public officials.

Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Ability to learn new technical information quickly and work independently with guidance.

Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review documents and make sound decisions.

Understanding of basic financial impacts related to project decisions (training provided).

Proficiency with computers, including ability to learn mapping systems, document platforms, and internal software tools.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Ability to work outdoors for approximately 50% of the work week, including visiting properties, job sites, and public offices.

Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, or evenings depending on project deadlines and workload.

Work environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and requires strong attention to detail and adaptability.
