Senior Core Java Engineer – Equity Risk & Derivatives Trading Systems

Location: Midtown Manhattan (Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite)

Compensation: Up to $220K base + bonus

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a highly experienced Core Java Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and development of front office Equity Risk and Derivatives Trading Systems. This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on backend development, system design, and performance optimization in a high-volume, low-latency trading environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the architecture and development of core trading and risk platforms for Equity and Derivatives businesses.

Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering technical excellence and best practices.

Collaborate with traders, quants, and risk managers to deliver high-impact solutions.

Design and implement robust, scalable backend systems to handle real-time market data and trading workflows.

Ensure systems meet stringent performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Experience:

20+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Core Java.

Proven track record building and maintaining front office trading or risk management systems in equities or derivatives.

Strong understanding of real-time trading workflows, market data handling, and risk calculations.

Experience in system architecture, design patterns, and performance tuning.

Ability to mentor and lead a team of engineers in a collaborative environment.

Nice to Have:

Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or analytics.

Exposure to .NET/C# in trading or risk environments.

Knowledge of messaging systems, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
