Talascend is currently seeking a Quality Engineer for a Direct Hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama, about 35 miles north of Mobile.
Overview
The ideal candidate will provide strong engineering support through process optimization and continuous improvement within the Product Design business unit to meet the quality goals.
Responsibilities
Manage daily disposition of steel coils across various grades due to mechanical failures, coordinating with engineering teams to identify root causes and implement process improvement initiatives.
Deliver project-specific data packages to customers on a weekly basis, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Track and analyze quality rejects, rework rates, and product yield to support tactical execution of the commercial business strategy.
Evaluate customer and industry material specifications in meeting dimensional, chemical, mechanical, and other technical requirements.
Serve as a liaison between Technical Services and Mill Quality/Operations teams to address product quality concerns related to production orders.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, science, or any related engineering discipline
Preferred: A Bachelor of Science in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering degree
Requirements
Experience in research, operations, quality assurance, product development and/or manufacturing
Knowledge of process/product improvement methodologies (such as Six Sigma)
Experience in failure investigation and root cause analysis in a metallurgical environment
Proficiency in Statistical Data Analysis
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
Ensure working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 14001 (current version), IATF 16949 (current version), and ISO 17025 (current version)
Ability to competently handle a fast-paced environment
Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders, work in small and large teams
Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Anticipates and adopts innovations in business-building digital and technology applications
Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
Knows the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement
Preferred Requirements
SAP and MES experience
Query building and SAS data analysis experience
Experience in the application of Lean Six Sigma to improve product performance and reliability through process redesign
Metallurgical understanding of the production and processing of flat-rolled steel products

Onsite role with standard 5 day work schedule
