We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead complex mechanical design initiatives for custom automation systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and excels in developing robust, high-precision automation equipment. You will play a key role from conceptual design through manufacturing support, ensuring each solution meets performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design of automated machinery, subassemblies, and system components using SolidWorks.
Develop concepts, models, detailed drawings, and complete engineering documentation packages.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including controls, electrical, and manufacturing engineering to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
Conduct engineering analyses such as tolerance stack-ups, stress analysis, GD&T application, and material selection.
Evaluate project requirements, propose design solutions, and present concepts to internal teams and customers.
Support build, debug, and commissioning activities on the shop floor; provide hands-on problem-solving and design adjustments as needed.
Work with suppliers to review manufacturability, cost, and lead-time considerations.
Ensure all designs meet quality standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and design tools. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
7+ years of mechanical design experience in automation, special machinery, robotics, or related industrial equipment.
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including advanced modeling, assemblies, motion studies, and detailed drawings.
Proven experience leading mechanical design on full automation projects from concept through delivery.
Strong understanding of GD&T, machining, fabrication, pneumatics, mechanisms, and motion systems.
Ability to perform engineering analysis and validate designs both analytically and physically.
Excellent communication, project planning, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in a custom automation environment strongly preferred. Location: Lewis Center, OH
