THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

Santander Alternative Investments (SAI) is looking for a ALTERNATIVE BUSINESS MANAGER based out of MADRID.

SAI currently manages or acts as investment adviser to various infrastructure and climate funds, including senior debt, junior debt/special situations, equity and venture capital. As part of the next phase of growth, SAI will launch a new

High-yield/junior infrastructure credit fund targeted to institutional clients. Santander will coinvest USD 200m in the fund as seed capital and coinvestment. This commitment can be drawn first to create a seed portfolio ahead of fund raising.

Climate venture fund as a follow on to the current fund managed by SAI.

These funds will be marketed to institutional clients (including internal clients eg insurance) and also potentially other HNW and PB clients.

SAI is seeking a senior individual who is able to

Help implement a program of business change in respect of the delivery of upgraded policies, systems and governance

Help author procedures governing key processes

Oversee business planning and reporting

Preparation of annual business plans for infrastructure and climate VC team and quarterly / monthly updates against plan showing deployment and P&L, run rate etc

Liaise with other business function in the organisation in respect of finance and operations reporting and ESG

Ensure the business delivers against its timelines for reporting to its clients and organise and coordinate with investments teams to achieve this

Perform a key role in respect of the set up and establishment of new funds

Assist with any inorganic initiatives

Professional Experience

5- 10 years Experience independently working in a business management role in an alternative asset manager. (Required)

Experience representing and working closely with investment teams to provide succinct and clear business reporting (Required)

Knowledge of liaising with operations and associated systems and ability to act as an interface between first and second line functions (Required)

Uncompromising integrity and knowledge of the compliance environments and how the team needs to operate (Required)

Ability to deal with expenses and attribution to funds (and set up associated processes) (Required)

Detailed understanding of ESG issues and their integration into the investment, monitoring and reporting process (Required)

Experience working across first and in combination with second line functions (valuation, risk management, compliance,). (Required)

Coordination of IC processes to make sure they are run professionally and correctly. (Required)

Education

University degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field (Required)

Postgraduate degree and/or MBA or CFA preferred (Preferred)

Languages

Proficiency in English is required. (Required)

Spanish, Portuguese or French advantageous but not essential. (Preferred)

Hard Skills

Business management in an alternatives asset manager (Requirred)

Finance and accounting and basic modelling (Required)

Familiarity with SFDR and ESG-issues and or linked covenants. (Preferred)

Soft Skills

Strategic leadership and team management.

Highly accurate and professional presentation and report writing skills.

Exceptional communication and writing skills with strong attention to detail.

Work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
