About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cost Engineer with expertise in electromechanical and electronic hardware costing for consumer products, life sciences, and energy domains. This role focuses on product teardown, should-cost analysis, VAVE workshops, and cost optimization for PCBA, wire harnesses, displays, battery modules, and other active/passive components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive value engineering and supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Perform Product Teardown and Should-Cost Analysis for electromechanical products
Develop and maintain cost models for:
PCBA, Wire Harnesses
Displays (LCD, OLED, TFT), Connectors, Sensors
Battery Modules and Electronic Components
Analyze Gerber files, schematics, and BOMs for accurate cost estimation
Identify cost drivers, benchmark against industry standards, and support supplier negotiations
Lead VAVE workshops to identify cost-saving opportunities
Collaborate with design and sourcing teams to optimize PCBA layouts and reduce electronic component costs
Support new product development with early cost estimation
Analyze supplier quotes and manufacturing processes for cost validation
Drive localization strategies and supply chain cost reduction
Monitor market trends, technology shifts, and cost fluctuations in electronics manufacturing
Maintain a repository of costing methodologies and historical cost-saving case studies
Prepare and present cost analysis reports and value engineering proposals to stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience: 3–8 years in Should Costing and Value Engineering for electronics hardware
Strong understanding of:
PCBA design and manufacturing
Wire harnessing, display technologies, and electronic component sourcing
Proven track record of achieving measurable cost savings through engineering and sourcing strategies
Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
Familiarity with COTS tools like Siemens TcPCM, aPriori, SEER
