The Aerospace Mechanical Technician is responsible for fabricating, troubleshooting, repairing, and refurbishing in the performance of Aerospace Mechanical requirements performed at Det 9 / TRSS Luke AFB, AZ and will report directly to the Site Manager. ACC TRSS DET 9 is responsible for the design, fabrication, repair, and refurbishment of combat aircrew training devices around the globe. Some of these ATDs include augmented cockpit simulators and egress procedures trainers, hypoxia familiarization trainers, aircraft control panel simulators, 3-D printed threat models, and other pilot classroom training aids. A mechanical technician working at DET 9 will be involved with a variety of tasks and programs. This person needs to be a critical thinker and a hands-on creative problem solver.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Produce and or modify components/parts to meet customer(s) needs.

Operate industrial equipment such as automatic presses, punches, brakes, waterjet machining centers, shears, mills, lathes, lasers, welders etc.

CNC machining, including programing and tooling set-ups. Please indicate the machine languages you are familiar with.

Interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings using manual drafting or computer aided modeling software.

Design, develop and construct mechanical apparatuses, devices, equipment, or components.

Redesign equipment parts to fit with divergent configuration or to enhance capabilities.

Modify components to fit with divergent configurations or to enhance capabilities.

Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems.

Calculate design data related to document layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, and procedures.

Inspect, analyze, and check drawings or equipment/components to determine adequacy of drawings and design.

Plan and conduct inspections/tests to evaluate equipment/component performance, determining inspection/test requirements and procedures.

Analyze inspection/test results, redesigned or modified equipment/components to improve performance.

Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning/completing projects of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.

Select and adapt plans, techniques, design, or layouts.

Contact personnel in related activities to resolve problems and to coordinate work efforts.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Demonstrated machine programming and operating experience.

Knowledge of fabrication machinery, tools, and equipment to include one or more of the following:

CNC machining centers

Laser cutting/engraving

Brake press

Turret punch

Sheet metal sheer

Water jet operation and maintenance

MIG/TIG welding

Fabrication or production experience in industrial settings or the trades.

Qualifications

Three years (3) minimum work experience in various trades such as metal design/fabrication, welding, machining, woodworking.
